Paterno daffy arrogance continues. Updated to reflect Paterno's removal

11/9/11, "Penn State president removed, Paterno out immediately," CNN
---------------------
Penn State trustees, not Paterno, get to decide how many more days Paterno will work if any. Paterno seems to think he gets to decide his employment status via an announcement to the AP that he'll go at the end of the season. He speaks dismissively of the trustees saying his behavior and employment status are off the table, that their focus should be on other matters. For those who say Paterno didn't know how serious this was, he seems to admit the opposite here:

11/9/11, "In his statement, Paterno said in part: “At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can. This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.”

The calls for Spanier and Paterno to be removed from their positions stem from an ongoing child sexual abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky."...

11/9/11, "PSU Board Will Ask Spanier To Resign," KDKA, Pittsburgh.CBSLocal.com

The article also says Penn State President Spanier will be asked to resign, though this is unconfirmed elsewhere:

11/9/11, "KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin reports sources close to the investigation confirm the Penn State Board of Trustees will meet in an executive session tonight.

The board will put together a departure package for Penn State President Graham Spanier and he will be asked to resign.

Sources say Spanier will be asked to accept the deal the trustees come up with or he will be fired. Spanier has retained Harrisburg defense attorney Joshua Lock in his grand jury matter."

A man admits to criminal child sexual abuse but is allowed to be a "volunteer coach" for many years after that. This in itself is a crime and is happening in many places other than Penn State at this moment. ed.
