Sea level rise alarm called off, Greenland melting less than expected-Der Spiegel

5/9/13, "Sea level rise: Greenland ice melts slower than expected," Der Spiegel

"The Greenland ice sheet are considered an essential element of uncertainty for sea level rise. In many cases, an accelerated melting was feared in the wake of global warming. But a new study shows that Greenland's glaciers thawing cause sea levels to rise well at least the next 200 years, less than feared. The study concludes that the accelerated ice loss in recent decades will not continue to the same extent.

With strong four large glaciers global warming would cause sea levels to rise by the year 2200 more than five centimeters, report researchers at the glaciologists Faezeh Nick of the Université Libre de Bruxelles in the journal "Nature". Transferred to all of Greenland they expect an increase by 2100 to more than 18 centimeters. The new estimates are in line with the forecast of the UN IPCC. Some studies had nurtured the fear of the IPCC could underestimate the melt in Greenland."...via No Tricks Zone

5/9/13, "Spiegel Report: “Greenland Melting More Slowly Than Expected” …Sea Level Rise Alarm Called Off!," P. Gosselin, NoTricksZone

"The Spiegel story contradicts an older 2010 New York Times 2010 doom and gloom portrayal of Greenland, which cited Stefan Rahmstorf, who said:

"The past clearly shows that sea-level rise is getting faster and faster the warmer it gets. Why should that process stop? If it gets warmer, ice will melt faster.”

Of course we know that it hasn’t gotten warmer at all in 15 years, and may have even cooled slightly, and so the process naturally will not accelerate."...via Tom Nelson
