Crowd source: "The cheering crowd of 8,879 people in Huntington Center"

7/27/16, "Trump in Toledo: 'Help is on its way'," Toledo Blade, Ignazio Messina, Kyle Rowland

"Republican nominee rallies with thousands at Huntington Center"

"Billionaire turned GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump railed against Hillary Clinton, promised to crush a controversial international trade deal, lambasted the state of Ohio's economy under Democratic rule, and vowed to protect the nation from ISIS during his rally today in downtown Toledo.

Mr. Trump fired up the crowd several times talking about fighting ISIS and his plans to build a wall between the United States and Mexico — comparing it to the Great Wall of China.

"I am going to make it even better," he said. "Ohio has lost one in three manufacturing jobs since (former president Bill) Clinton signed NAFTA," Mr. Trump said.

"Probably the worst agreement ever signed in the history of this county probably the history of the world," he said.

He took equal shots at the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a 12-nation trade deal negotiated by President Barack Obama's administration.

"Trans-Pacific Partnership is a total disaster," Mr. Trump said to the cheering crowd of 8,879 people in Huntington Center.

He said said the Trans-Pacific Partnership would be "worse than NAFTA" and "drive jobs out of Ohio and Toledo."

"It would be a disaster for Ohio; it will be a disaster for Toledo," he said. "We cant let it happen and the one way we know it wont happen is to elect Donald Trump."

Mr. Trump said too many Ohioans live below the poverty line.

"Since 2000 the number of people on food stamps in Ohio has nearly tripled...Help is on its way in the form of Donald Trump," he said to cheers.

He drew even more cheers with his trademark "build the wall" statement.

No subject appears to be off limits. The Republican presidential candidate has talked about Iraq, ISIS, healthcare, and even Secretary of State John Kerry's broken leg in Toledo.

"We've been fighting this war for 15 years and we can't win it," Mr. Trump said about Iraq. "I didn't want to fight in the first place. But we can't let these people chop off heads and drown people. And Hillary Clinton's policies got us into this mess."...

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has garnered significant attention in recent weeks, thanks to Trump.

He said he might not support NATO nations if they are attacked. Mr. Trump's reasoning was because NATO countries do not pay back the United States.

"We're spending our money to defend them. You gotta pay, you gotta pay," Mr. Trump said.

Some took Mr. Trump's comments as he wouldn't protect the Baltic nations from being invaded by Russia.

Every four years, Ohio is the center of the political universe.

The state’s 18 electoral votes are often the most important in deciding the outcome of the election.

Trump said he'll be in the state on a regular basis until Election Day. "Ohio is going to see so much of me you'll beg me not to come back," Mr. Trump said. "We'll be in Toledo."

After a 62-minute speech, Trump left the stage, but not before receiving thunderous applause for his closing remarks.

"We're going to have our wall, we're going to get rid of Obamacare, we're going to bring jobs back, we're going to bring our jobs back to Toledo, Ohio, we're not going to let other countries take our jobs. And if they do, there will be consequences."

Mr. Trump continued, saying Toledo residents will be calling the White House after he's elected to tell him they aren't used to winning so much.

"I'll say, 'I'm sorry, we're going to keep winning and winning and winning,’ and we're going to make America great again. I love you Ohio.""

How Trump will do it: Monessen, Pa. speech, 6/28/16: The fastest way to get our jobs back is by trade reform: enforcing current trade laws now ignored and not entering new, massive, multi-nation trade deals like TPP in the future:

6/29/16, "Trump outlines economic plan in Monessen speech," Herald-Standard, Christine Haines, Monessen, Pa.

"Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump Tuesday offered an invited audience of 250 supporters a vision of the Mon Valley that once again includes manufacturing jobs--if he is elected president.

I want you to imagine a much better life, and a life where you can have the American dream again,” Trump said.

The Pittsburgh region played a crucial role in building our nation,” Trump said. “Our workers’ loyalty was repaid with betrayal.”

Trump said globalization made a number of politicians very wealthy, confessing that he used to be one of them.

Trump called for strict enforcement of existing trade laws to give America economic independence, saying it was the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) approved in the 1990s that helped bring about the end of American jobs.

"We do not need to enter into another international trade agreement that ties us down and binds us up, Trump said, calling for the United States to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which has not yet been ratified.

Withdrawing from the TTP was one of seven steps Trump outlined as part of his policy if elected.

“The era of economic surrender will finally be over,” Trump said.

Trump said he wants to identify violators of trade agreements and would tell the NAFTA partners that he wants to renegotiate that pact.

“Hillary Clinton wants to shut down energy production and shut down the mines, and she said it just recently, she wants to shut down the miners. I want to do exactly the opposite,” Trump said.

The Trump administration will also ensure that we start using American steel for American infrastructure. It will be American steel that will fortify American bridges. It will be American steel that sends our skyscrapers soaring, soaring into the sky, a beautiful sight. It will be American steel that rebuilds our inner cities. It will be American hands that remake this country and it will be American energy mined from American resources that powers this country.”"...

Donald Trump Position: Reforming the U.S. China trade relationship to make America great again

==================

More on Trump's 6/28/16 Monessen, Pa. speech about economic reform:

"If Trump is to carry Pennsylvania, Monessen is the kind of Democratic town he must win in November. In fact, he was invited to town by Democratic Mayor Louis Mavrakis."...

6/28/16, "Trump Delivers Policy Speech In Monessen," CBS Pittsburgh, Jon Delano
........
"Donald Trump told Mon Valley workers that he, and not Hillary Clinton, could negotiate and enforce stronger trade deals that would restore hard hit towns like Monessen.

“Our politicians have aggressively pursued a policy of globalization, moving our jobs, our wealth and our factories to Mexico and overseas,” he said.

Trump outlined a seven-point plan to restore America’s trade position and blamed the Clintons for NAFTA and other bad trade deals.

She has it completely backwards,” he said. “Hillary Clinton unleashed a trade war against the American worker when she supported one terrible deal after another. From NAFTA to China to South Korea, it doesn’t matter, no matter where she went, the American worker was hurt.”"...

7/27/16, "Thousands turn out for Trump speech," Toledo Blade,

"Streets around Huntington Center packed for Republican nominee."

"As Donald Trump’s plane arrived in suburban Toledo for an evening rally, people were still waiting — with a line two blocks long — to get into the Huntington Center to see him.

Dan Roberts of Millbury was one of those who made it inside the arena in time. That’s because he waited in line since 7 a.m. today to see the GOP presidential nominee.

Mr. Trump was delayed past his scheduled 8 p.m. speech time in downtown Toledo today, with the speech beginning at 8:38 p.m.

His personal plane landed at Toledo Express Airport at 7:30 p.m. The plane he flew on is Trump Force One, which is the $100 million personalized Boeing 757 of Mr. Trump.

Mr. Roberts, 50, stood outside the Huntington Center from the early morning, even though he already had a ticket.

He said he’s seen other Trump rallies where thousands of people stood in line for hours because of heavy demand. If he wasn’t in line, Mr. Roberts said he would be working at Sun Oil. He held a Hilliary sign with liar in bold.

Two feet away from Mr. Roberts stood Nancy Wolfe, who traveled to Toledo from Willis, Mich. She began standing in line at 10 a.m., with hopes of getting in the front row to get a picture with Mr. Trump.

“My dad said he’d vote for him if I got a picture,” said Ms. Wolfe, whose father is a Democrat.

Asked what she liked about Mr. Trump, Ms. Wolfe responded with a resounding, “Everything.”

“I think he can calm (his rhetoric) down a bit. But I really think he’s what we need,” she added.

The line of people waiting to get inside the arena stretched down Huron, north of Madison, before doors opened late this afternoon.
.............
South Toledoan Margie Lark fought back tears talking about Mr. Trump before his rally downtown.

"I think he has a fresh face and I think he is going to make America great again," Ms. Lark said with tears in her eyes. "He is not in government and no one can buy him."

The billionaire's lack of any political office resonated with many supporters gathered inside the arena.

"He is not a lawyer. He is not a politician," said Doug Beat, of Springfield Township. "He is a businessman."

Mr. Beat said he supports Mr. Trump because of his support of capitalism....

John Kurfess, 16, of Millbury, said he thinks Democratic rule has endangered his ability to get a job when he is done with college.

"I want to make sure there are jobs out there for me," said the teenager, who was decked out in a Trump T-shirt and hat. "The economy has been struggling with the Democrats in office. I don't think it's a good idea to have another Democrat in office."

The anti-Hillary Clinton sentiment was apparent among the Trump supporters.

Supporters inside the arena waiting for the GOP candidate to arrive briefly chanted "lock her up" and "build the wall."

"Hillary is a crook, just like he says," said Luis Darah, owner of Superior Uniform Sales in Toledo. "He is not afraid to speak up and tell you what he thinks."

Mr. Darah, who said he is Arabic, said he is not bothered or concerned by any Mr. Trump's statements some think are inflammatory or racist.

Toledo was the Republican nominee’s third event of the day, after Doral, Fla., at 10:30 a.m., and Scranton, Pa., at 3 p.m. He has rallies scheduled for Thursday in Davenport and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mr. Trump, nominated by the GOP last week in Cleveland, is hitting the campaign trail hard to extract as much post-convention bounce as possible while Democratic rival Hillary Clinton is nominated this week in Philadelphia.

One hour before his Toledo rally initially was to start, Mr. Trump was scheduled to participate in an online question-and-answer session on the website Reddit.

Reddit announced that Mr. Trump will participate in an “Ask Me Anything” session. The session began at 6:30 p.m. and Mr. Trump was answering questions from his airplane.

The web address to view the event is reddit.com/r/The_Donald/.

The Toledo Police Department closed Huron Street between Madison and Jefferson avenues and Jefferson between Huron and North St. Clair Street for the rally. General parking for the event is in nearby surface lots and garages.

Several groups have protested his pending arrival.

Mike Bell, a former Toledo mayor and fire chief who now is the Republican nominee for Pete Gerken’s Lucas County commissioner seat, led Mr. Trump’s rally in the Pledge of Allegiance."
